At my son's request I took the Z to work yesterday, I drop my kids off at school on my way to work, and I've been driving the beater a lot lately with all the rain we've been having. He asked again today, and since I love driving the Z and the weather is good I said yes, but I just couldn't stand the squeaking any longer. So when I get the car out of the garage and in the driveway, I pop the hood and look around, and yes the latch was/is well coated with lithium grease, and I thought to myself what else could it be? On a whim I took a bit of the grease from the hood latch and rubbed it on the top of each of the Rubber Hood Bumpers. I then wiped the excess off with a rag so there was just a thin coating left behind. Viola, sweet silence while driving the Z to school and work this morning. On another note, a while ago, someone was asking about shift points and found they were getting better gas mileage by shifting a bit higher up the rpm range than they had in the past, ~3500 rpm instead of ~2500 rpm, as I recall. Well I've got an auto so can't exactly control shift points, or can't I? In the past I have always kept the O/D engaged on the trans. So for the past month or so I have left it off unless I'm cruzing down the highway with light traffic around. I find the car stays in the lower gears longer even under mild acceleration, so it feels more responsive and I'm getting slightly better gas mileage, win/win. One more thing, my N/A is also enjoying the cool, O2 rich autumn air that all your TT's are enjoying, and is pulling nicely!!
